While we have heard about the benefits of resveratrol for years, a lot of people really didn’t find that information useful because they didn’t drink red wine.  This could be due to reasons such as religion, lifestyle choice, or maybe they simply don’t like wine.  Most people have heard how good resveratrol is for your body on television and magazines.  Shows such as Oprah and 60 Minutes have done numerous stories about it featuring scientists and doctors.  The consensus is, people SHOULD be including some form of this compound into their daily lives.  People lead busy lives and manufacturer’s realize this and for a few years have been perfecting resveratrol supplements that can be taken easily and also contain a super large dose of this compound.

Resveratrol supplements are becoming extremely popular and can be found in most retail stores and online.  An average bottle of supplements will contain 60-90 capsules and each capsule will have as much resveratrol as 1 to even 10 whole bottles of red wine.  The actual amount will vary depending on who makes it and the plants they extract this substance from so you will have to spend some time reading labels to make a good choice.  Many multi-vitamins are now including resveratrol just like they all added lycopene a few years ago.  You can find “red wine pills” at various retailers too but if you want a really concentrated dose, you might want to go with a supplement made from the Japanese Knotweed instead.

Resveratrol has been shown to help combat the signs of aging, fight obesity, reduce the risk of heart disease, help prevent various forms of cancer, and even help prevent Alzheimer’s disease.  These claims may sound outrageous on first glance but each one has scientific merit.  The problem is, a glass of red wine here and there will provide some benefits but probably won’t help too much when it comes to dieting and preventing disease.  You will need daily concentrated doses to really reap the benefits of resveratrol and there is just no better way to do this than taking supplements.
